MOASC is pleased to offer the 2027 Cary Presant, MD Young Investigator Award, a $25,000 research grant supporting promising early-career investigators pursuing new clinical and translational oncology research projects.

The award reflects MOASC's commitment to advancing cancer research while supporting the development of the next generation of oncology investigators. One investigator will be selected to receive a $25,000 award for a one-year grant term from July 1, 2027 through June 30, 2028.

Applicant Eligibility

Applicants must:

• • Hold an MD or DO degree with an intent to practice clinical oncology
  • Have initiated or completed an ACGME-accredited fellowship program in hematology and/or oncology
  • Be no more than seven years beyond completion of fellowship training
  • Practice at a Southern California institution for the full duration of the one-year award

Research Focus

The Cary Presant, MD Young Investigator Award supports clinical and translational oncology research that advances treatment approaches for patients with cancer.

Proposed research must represent a new project and be appropriately designed for the one-year grant term and available funding. Projects will be evaluated based on academic merit and feasibility, with consideration given to their potential contribution to oncology research and patient care.

Award Presentation & Recipient Recognition

The selected recipient is expected to attend the MOASC Annual Oncology Leadership & Research Summit on March 20, 2027, to accept the Cary Presant, MD Young Investigator Award in person and provide brief remarks as part of the award presentation.

MOASC recognizes that clinical, research, or other unavoidable professional obligations may occasionally prevent attendance. If the selected recipient is unable to attend, they should notify MOASC as soon as possible so alternative arrangements may be discussed.

About Cary Presant, MD

The Young Investigator Award is named in honor of Cary Presant, MD, founder and first president of the Medical Oncology Association of Southern California.

Dr. Presant's longstanding leadership and commitment to oncology have helped shape MOASC and its mission to advance cancer care through education, collaboration, research, and professional engagement. He continues to serve on the MOASC Board of Directors today.
